My first book publication (that I know of)
As I was sitting and clearing out the e-mail box this evening, Holly gave me a package that had arrived earlier that day. It was a thick envelope from India. I had no idea what it was until I opened it and pulled out a copy of a book titled "Digital Rights Management: An Introduction".
When I saw that, I remembered a brief e-mail correspondence that I had with a fellow from India about reprinting an article that I'd written for Free Software Magazine more than a year ago. The article was published under a GNU Free Documentation License, so it was nice (though unnecessary) that the editor, D. Satish, to write me and ask for my permission for republication. I typically don't have any objections to these requests and I typically just ask for a printed copy of the republication for my own ego gratification. I did this when writing for Free Software Magazine and I have several copies of random Mac magazines that include copies of Books on the discs included that month.
This was rather unexpected, but I guess that I can now say that I've overcome the book hurdle by being included in this edited volume. I guess I'd better start thinking of writing a book of my own. That's what's next, right? :-)
